Special Education Consultancy Services
My practice was established in 1991, to address issues related to children with special educational needs and their families. I have, through a combination of theory and practice, developed a solid and comprehensive background in working with individuals experiencing difficulties with learning and/or behaviour. My experience spans the infants, primary and secondary years.
The primary objective of the special education services offered by this practice, is to ensure that the most appropriate, responsible and practical education programme is developed, for the individual with special learning needs.
When you attend this practice you are receiving a professional, specialist service. Special education is not tutoring or remediation. Rather, it is about working with children, parents, schools and allied professionals, to achieve the best possible educational, behavioural, emotional and social outcomes for the child with a learning disability.
This practice does not work with children who need tutoring for a relatively short period of time to “catch up”. I am dedicated to working with children who have intrinsic learning and behaviour difficulties and who require long term - ongoing assistance with follow-up. My many years of post graduate study and experience, allows me to utilize and combine education and learning theory with counselling and psychological theory, resulting in a unique professional service, which caters to the needs of the child, teen and family.
I specialize in working with students who experience learning difficulties in the following areas:
• Literacy (reading, comprehension, spelling, writing, listening)
• Numeracy
• Memory and Attention
• Executive Functions (planning, organization, strategizing)
A combination of counselling and special education training is used to assist parents in the following areas:
• Educational assessments in key learning domains
• Treatment/ therapy options
• School selection
• Interpretation of assessments
• Practical strategies, tips and ideas for dealing with behaviour problems, school related anxiety, homework, assignment modification, subject selection and self esteem issues.
• Dyslexia, ADHD, Learning Difficulties and Disabilities.
